About Us

We move ideas into action.

Welcome to UUC of CC!

We are a congregation of diverse individuals, united in the core belief that everyone is worthy and deserving of love and respect. Our church is guided by a dedicated Board of Members who work tirelessly to ensure our spiritual and communal growth in meaningful and impactful ways.

Meet Our Board Members

Our Board Members each bring their own unique set of skills, talents, experiences, and perspectives to the table. Together, they form an invaluable team, providing exceptional leadership and support for our community. Whether it be in our worship services, educational programs, or community outreach activities, we rely on our Board Members to shape our vision and help us fulfill our mission.

Dinah Moore

Outreach Committee Chairperson

I am retired, but far from idle. I believe in using technology effectively to keep up and enhance the services in our Congregation. My passion is working for justice and protecting our environment - not only for ourselves, but so that future generations can enjoy a quality life as well. I'm an optimist who believes in the power of people to make the world a better place, and I'm willing to work hard to bring about positive change.

Kathy Kaminski

Co-Treasurer

After 45 years of serving as a Registered Nurse and raising two children, my husband and I chose to move from Florida to the beautiful Lenoir. Along with our two beloved dogs and fourteen chickens, we've embraced retirement and found a spiritual home in Unitarian Universalism at UUC of Caldwell County. We are now delighted to be able to spend time together, loving on our four grandchildren, and exploring all that Lenoir has to offer.

Rosyln MacGuire

Moderator-Elect

I'm an active member of UUC of CC, and I've been here for more than five years. I recently retired after a long career in social work in the healthcare field. I'm married to my soulmate of fifty years, and together we are the proud parents of three children and five grandchildren. My passion is helping others, especially those who need it most. I'm an advocate for the underdog, an active listener, and a nurturer of relationships. I'm dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of others, whether through leading by example, or just being present. I believe that love can conquer all and strive to live life with passion and purpose.

Tana Murray

Moderator

As a descendant of Finley Scott Curlee, a granddaughter, I was pleased when the Unitarian Universalist of Caldwell County purchased the property for their home. My husband and I researched the UUA Covenant, Mission, and 7 Principles and discovered that we had found a community where we belonged. For most of my working years, I have worked with the less fortunate citizens of our county. I served as Executive Director of the Lenoir Soup Kitchen, Caldwell Friends, and Robbin’s Nest. Also, I have been President and/or Board Member of United Way, Salvation Army(local), Shelter Home, Lenoir Service League, League of Women Voters, Chamber of Commerce, FEMA (local), and Yokefellow. A quote by President Jimmy Carter has been my mantra, “Our dreams are big - our hopes high - our goals long term - and the path difficult. But the only failure is not to try.” The UUA community believes in making our community and world better for all. Our Principles state our intent, and members put their caring into action. I’m blessed to play a part in our endeavor.

Joan Hill

Secretary

I attended Georgia Southwestern State University where I majored in Art and minored in English. I spent several years as a radio announcer, as well as in sales and commercial production. Since then, I spent over 25 years in office management, with the last 13 years of my career at two Orange County, NC, charter high schools for at-risk teens. I had attended the Unitarian Church in Chapel Hill sporadically over a number of years. During that time I also discovered and became a student of Thom Bond’s Compassionate Communication, based on Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication work. I retired shortly after relocating to Caldwell County with my sisters and one of my sons. Family members have fondly dubbed our home “Wrinkle Ridge.” I also have one other son and one daughter, as well as seven grandchildren. It took a few years for me to discover the local congregation. but I have been actively involved for a number of years now. I currently serve as the church secretary. It has been a joy to find like-minded people here. We are a small congregation, but we believe in putting our beliefs and principles into action in our community and in the world.

Our Church's History

2005

First Small Group Is Born

We started with just four people in a library in Lenoir, but soon more folks joined us to form the Unitarian Universalist of Caldwell County. Our mission is why we came together – to create a place where all kinds of people can feel accepted and express themselves. We also want to make sure we work for world peace, justice, and a clean environment.

2010

Decision To Build A Church

Our very own Tana Murray and her siblings presented us with an amazing opportunity that was too good to pass up - their family home was on the market! We were blessed with the help of John Elian and other building experts who renovated our new space and got it ready for use as a Church. Finally in October 2010 we proudly opened our doors and began using it as our Church.

Today

Always Expanding

For 17 years, the volunteers of our congregation have done a lot to keep us running. They've worked on the building and grounds, decorated, provided furniture, been leaders in committees, and planned meaningful services. Our faith community is constantly evolving to meet the spiritual needs of our members, so we must be open to changing the way we do things. Thank you for your support that allows us to keep growing!
